DISCLOSURE - WHITE NOISE

DISCLOSURE feat. AlunaGeorge - White Noise

Aluna+George=Alunageorge
It's going to be pretty much impossible to excape this track over the next few months.  Disclosure keep bring the goods, and are now mixing up the styles somewhat.  They've made a name for themselves with their deep, hushed, sexy house and hotly tipped vocalists.  Here we have Aluna, from London duo Alunageorge, who's high pitched, yet smooth, vocal gives the track a unique vibe.  It's got that familiar Disclosure rhythm, where the vocal itself adds so much groove but, at around 2.56, there's this whole techno-house BPM increase that just makes this so much beefier than their other stuff, and for me, makes it their best release so far.

TOP REMIXES OF 2012

2012 has had some serious tunes and some seriously exciting producers coming to the forefront.  I've particularly enjoyed the British contingent; producers like Huxley and Julio Bashmore and labels like Hypercolour and Wolf Music have crossed over and brought the British bass scene to new listeners.  I'm throwing in a few end of year lists throughout the month, which highlight the tracks I couldn't get enough of this year.

TOP 5 REMIXES

1.  STORM QUEEN - Look Right Through (MK DON'T TALK TO ME DUB) Released - February
Quite simply, a TUNE. Released on Defected at the start of the year, MK worked his magic and produced his best work of the year IMO.  Old school, distinctive, and classy.  MK is the house master.

2. Jessie Ware - Running (DISCLOSURE REMIX)  Released - April
A massive remix that made 2012 Disclosure's year.  Uplifting and unique; the throwback chords and funked up rhythm make the track impossible not to enjoy.

3. Maxxi Soundsystem - Stella's Way (HUXLEY REMIX)  Released - October
A bad-ass descending bass-line, subtle chords and a touch of class from Huxley.

4. JUSTIN MARTIN - Don't Go (DUSKY REMIX) Released - October
Dusky transforms the delicate, twinkly original with a deep, pulsating bass-line that fuses house and garage to maximum affect.

5.  JESSIE WARE - No To Love (GEORGE FITZGERALD MIX)
Released - November
Driving, peak time techno tinged bomb

Runner's Up

Lana Del Ray - Video Games (Joy Orbison Remix)
Kim-Ann Foxman - Return It (Populette Remix)
Shenoda - Moments (Huxley Remix)
Justin Martin - Ghetto's and Gardens (Bachelors of Science D&B Remix)
Justin Martin/Leroy Peppers - Riding Spaceships (Shadow Child 'In Search of 94' Mix)
Lana Del Ray - Ride (Photek Remix)

FRIDAY FLAVOURS

Every Friday, or possibly another day (it's a surprise),  I'll be posting up a couple of tracks that have stopped me in my tracks and have been played to death on my playlist's.  Today is a bit of a house tinged selection.

First up the Disclosure remix of Jessie Ware's new single Running has been causing a storm.  The original, produced by Julio Bashmore, is a deep, dark affair with excellent production and vocals from Ware.  This remix however (currently released on 12'' via PMR records), ups the energy with a deep house vibe, and instantly gets heads nodding as Ware's vocals are chopped and caressed in equal measure.  I wasn't too familiar with Disclosure, but they have some seriously good productions under their belt and have an effortlessly cool sound.

Next up, I can't get enough of the MK remix of Storm Queen's 2010 top-seller Look Right Through.  This was released in Feb on Defected records as part of a second instalment of releases of this track, which also features Dimitri from Paris and Aeroplane.  It's the MK (aka house legend Marc Kinchen) that really hits the right notes with me though with it's old school sound.

And just one more for the road, Mark Knight's latest installment on his Toolroom records Alright, is also tinged with an old school feel and is pure dance-floor magic!
